The Capitals’ near-record winning streak resulted in record-shattering ratings.
Wednesday’s Capitals/Canadiens game, which the Capitals lost in overtime to snap their 15-game winning streak, drew a 5.8 rating on CSN Mid-Atlantic — the highest rating ever for a Capitals game on the network, regular season or postseason.
The 5.8 easily snaps the previous regular season record of 4.4, set by Thrashers/Capitals on Friday. Additionally, the rating is 76% higher than the then-record 3.3 set by Capitals/Penguins on January 21.
Since that January 21 game, CSN Mid-Atlantic has drawn its five largest Capitals ratings ever. In addition to the three aforementioned games, the network also drew a 3.2 for Capitals/Bruins on February 2 and a 2.6 for Capitals/Rangers on February 4.
The rating also tops the previous playoff record of 5.5, set by Capitals/Penguins Game 7 last May.
So far this season, Capitals telecasts on CSN Mid-Atlantic are averaging a 1.5 rating, up 41% from last year. The last 10 games have averaged a 2.8 rating.
