Surprisingly, overnight ratings improved for arguably the most anonymous Grand Slam final in many years.
NBC drew a 1.7 overnight rating for Saturday’s French Open Women’s Final between Francesca Schiavone and Samantha Stosur, up 21% from last year’s Kuznetsova/Safina final (1.4) and down 6% from Safina/Ivanovic in ’08 (1.8).
The 1.7 overnight is the second-lowest for the Women’s Final of the French Open since at least ’98, ahead of only last year.
Sunday’s Rafael Nadal/Robin Soderling Men’s Final drew a 1.6 overnight, down 11% from both Federer/Soderling last year (1.8) and Nadal/Federer in ’08 (1.8).
The 1.6 is the lowest for the Men’s Final at the French Open since at least ’98.
No French Open final has hit a 2.0 overnight since 2007 (Nadal/Federer, 2.2), and none has hit a 3.0 since 2002 (S. Williams/V. Williams, 3.6).
In 1999, a year that must seem like ancient history from a ratings perspective, the Women’s Final drew a 3.8 overnight and the Men’s Final drew a 4.0.
