A battle of two sub-.500 teams drew less-than-impressive numbers on ESPN Monday night.
The Chargers’ Monday night win over the Broncos earned an 8.3 overnight rating on ESPN, down 6% from Week 11 last year (TEN/HOU: 8.8), and up 2% from Week 11 two years ago (CLE/BUF: 8.2).
The Chargers entered Monday’s game at 4-5, while the Broncos began the night at 3-6.
The 8.3 overnight is the second-lowest of the season for Monday Night Football, ahead of only Titans/Jaguars in Week 6 (7.2).
Excluding games on NFL Network, the 8.3 is tied as the second-lowest overnight for any NFL telecast this season. This is just the sixth time this season that a telecast on ESPN, FOX, NBC or CBS has drawn less than a 9.0 overnight.
The ESPN telecast drew a 19.0 rating in San Diego and a 14.5 in Denver. As usual, the telecast was simulcast on local broadcast affiliates in both markets, earning a 15.8 on San Diego CBS affiliate KFMB and a 12.8 on Denver MyNetworkTV affiliate KTVD.
