SportsCenter anchor Josh Elliott made his final appearance on ESPN Friday morning, becoming emotional as he said his goodbyes to the network.
Friday’s morning edition of SportsCenter was the last for anchor Josh Elliott, who is departing for ABC’s Good Morning America. During his final moments on the air, Elliott became emotional as he thanked ESPN, the network’s behind-the-scenes staff, and viewers.
Elliott’s on-air statement in full:
I just want to say, I want to thank this network for taking a flyer on me all those years ago. And I want to thank them for believing in this show, and these morning SportsCenters. It has been a remarkable run for these last few years. I want to thank all the folks, including the people behind these cameras, and in the digital center, and up in the control room, who actually get this show on the air each and every day.
And most of all, I want to thank all of you. Because it is an infinite cable universe, and you let us into your homes for a few moments every day, and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate it, because it really does make this the very best job in all of sports. And I’m going to miss it.
Elliott, who had been with ESPN in varying capacities since 2004, will make his debut as newsreader for Good Morning America in May.
