The NFL lockout has ended, at least for the time being, following a ruling by a federal judge.
U.S. District Court Judge Susan Nelson granted NFL players’ request for an injunction to halt the owner-imposed NFL lockout Monday. The move at least temporarily brings to an end the league’s ongoing work stoppage.
The NFL plans to appeal the ruling to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Multiple reports indicate that the league will ask both Nelson and the Eighth Circuit to stay the ruling while they appeal the injunction.
Should the league obtain a stay of the ruling, the lockout will continue. If not, however, the NFL will “have to put rules in place allowing players to return to work and free agency to open within days” (nytimes.com, 4/25).
