Months after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor domestic battery charge, former Around the Horn panelist Jay Mariotti faces new charges that could result in a five-year prison sentence.
Mariotti pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to three felony charges related to an April incident in which he allegedly confronted the same ex-girlfriend he was accused of assaulting last year.
According to a release by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Mariotti faces “one felony count each of stalking, corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, and two misdemeanor counts of disobeying a domestic court order” (da.lacounty.gov, 5/11).
The incident in question took place on April 15, when Mariotti allegedly grabbed his ex-girlfriend and “pulled a chunk of her hair out” in a confrontation outside of a Venice restaurant.
Should Mariotti be convicted on all charges, he would face up to five years in prison.
Mariotti was charged last year with six misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, following an incident in late August. In the wake of his arrest, he lost his positions at AOL’s Fanhouse.com and ESPN’s Around the Horn.
