Charges against ESPN NHL analyst Matthew Barnaby will be dismissed should he hold up his end of a deal with prosecutors.
In an agreement with prosecutors, Barnaby will have all charges against him dropped in his domestic violence case if he complies with a judge’s orders to serve 500 hours of community service and continue anger management counseling.
Following his May arrest, Barnaby was charged with felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor counts of criminal contempt, criminal trespass, harassment and aggravated harassment. Those charges were later reduced to misdemeanor criminal mischief and aggravated harassment, according to the Buffalo News.
Those reduced charges will be dropped altogether if Barnaby “complies with a judge’s conditions” (Buffalo News, 7/6). In addition to the aforementioned community service and counseling, Barnaby was slapped with additional orders of protection “barring him from ‘offensive’ conduct against his estranged wife and directing him to stay away from her boyfriend.”
Barnaby has not appeared on ESPN since his arrest, which took place during the middle of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. ESPN, in a statement to Fang’s Bites: “Now that [it’s] gotten to the point in the process, we need to regroup and have follow up conversations” (Fang’s Bites, 7/7).
