Former Laker announcer Spero Dedes was officially named the Knicks’ new radio play-by-play voice on Thursday, over a month after reports first surfaced that he would receive the job.
Dedes has been hired as the Knicks’ lead radio play-by-play voice, MSG announced Thursday. In addition, he will serve as the primary backup for Mike Breen on MSG Network’s Knicks telecasts.
Dedes will make his debut if and when the NBA resumes play.
Reports first surfaced that Dedes would join the Knicks in late June, but his July 4 DWI arrest delayed the announcement. According to the New York Post, Dedes and the Knicks were “in final contract negotiations” before the arrest took place.
Prior to joining the Knicks, Dedes served as the radio voice of the Los Angeles Lakers. On a national level, he currently works for CBS as an NFL and college basketball play-by-play voice.
