With two television packages still up for bid, NASCAR is reportedly “warming” toward NBC. In other news, NBC would have aired up to ten Big East games per year, and Pittsburgh will reportedly make its ACC football debut against Florida State on Labor Day.
NASCAR Reportedly Interested in NBC
- NASCAR is “warming” to the idea of a new relationship with NBC, sources told Sports Business Journal in a piece published Monday. NBC, which held NASCAR television rights from 2001 to 2006, has “made no secret” of its interest in NASCAR TV rights. ESPN and Turner Sports will have an exclusive negotiating window to retain their NASCAR rights starting in the early summer. (Sports Business Journal)
Up to Ten Big East Games Would Have Aired on NBC Broadcast Network
- The NBC broadcast network would have televised “up to 10” Big East college football games per year under NBC Sports’ failed bid for conference TV rights, The New York Times reported Saturday. Last season, NBC aired eight games — seven Notre Dame games and the Grambling/Southern Bayou Classic. NBC Sports Network would have aired most of the games, and Comcast SportsNet RSNs would have also televised games in Big East markets. ESPN matched NBC’s bid for Big East rights last week. ESPN to Air FSU/Pittsburgh on Labor Day
- ESPN will televise the Florida State/Pittsburgh college football game on Labor Day, according to multiple reports. The game will mark Pittsburgh’s ACC debut. The full 2013 ACC schedule is expected to be released on Monday afternoon. (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
