Days after The New York Times broke the news of Keith Olbermann‘s desire to return to ESPN, The Big Lead reported Wednesday that ESPN has reciprocated that interest.
ESPN president John Skipper “wants” Olbermann to return to ESPN, sources told The Big Lead, and the network is “very likely going to get him.” The report flies in the face of Skipper’s almost dismissive sentiments in The New York Times Sunday — essentially suggesting that Olbermann was desperate for a return, but ESPN had no room and no interest.
As unlikely as it seems, The Big Lead report indicates that Olbermann could return to ESPN by the end of May.
Olbermann rose to fame at ESPN but had a highly contentious tenure that ended with a very public falling out. He has not worked for the network since 1997. Since his departure, he worked for Fox Sports and NBC Sports and, for a time, was the most prominent liberal-leaning figure in cable news.
