The final round of The Masters earned one of the largest audiences for the event in the past decade.
Final round coverage of the 2013 Masters earned a 9.4 final rating and 14.7 million viewers on CBS last Sunday, up 18% in ratings and 9% in viewership from last year (8.0, 13.5M), but down 1% and 4%, respectively, from 2011 (9.5, 15.3M).
The telecast earned the fourth-largest audience for the final round of The Masters since 2001, trailing only 2010 (16.7M), 2011, and 2007 (14.9M).
Compared to other sports, the final round of The Masters drew fewer viewers than several marquee events over the past year. Every game of the NBA Finals, the BCS Championship Game and Rose Bowl, and even the Daytona 500 and Kentucky Derby attracted larger audiences than Sunday’s telecast. The deciding Game 4 of last year’s World Series — which on average was the least-viewed ever — also topped Sunday’s final round.
Overall, the final round ranks as the 15th most-watched non-NFL, non-Olympic sporting event over the past year (Apr. 14, 2012 to Apr. 14, 2013).
On Saturday, third round action drew a 5.8 and 8.5 million viewers — up 16% in ratings and viewership from last year (5.0, 7.3M), but down 11% and 10%, respectively, from 2011 (6.5, 9.5M).
Overall, each round of The Masters had an increase in viewership over last year.
