Upcoming attractions on sports TV, including three documentaries on NBC’s Olympic coverage this weekend. Also, ESPN plans a special on the “N” word Sunday night, and NBC and NBCSN have scheduled over 50 hours of coverage of the upcoming Paralympic Games.
“Lokomotiv” (Saturday afternoon, NBC), “Long Way Home” (Saturday night), “Nancy & Tonya” (7 PM Sunday)
- NBC Sports has scheduled three documentaries for the final weekend of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. On Saturday, afternoon coverage includes “Lokomotiv” — a look back at the 2011 plane crash that killed all-but-one member of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl KHL team, including several former NHL players. In primetime window, the network airs “Long Way Home: The Jessica Long Story,” chronicling the search by a paralympic athlete for her Russian birth parents. The highest-profile of the three, “Nancy & Tonya,” is slated for Sunday night prior to the Closing Ceremony. The one-hour doc focuses on the infamous scandal at the 1994 Winter Olympics, complete with interviews of both Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding. (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
“Special Report: The N Word” (7 PM Sunday, ESPN)
- For those not interested in “Nancy & Tonya,” ESPN has a special of its own Sunday night. The network will air an hour-long special devoted to the “N” word and its role in sports. Hosted by Bob Ley, the show will include reports by ABC News’ Byron Pitts and ESPN’s T.J. Quinn as well as a live discussion featuring guests Common, Ryan Clark, Jemele Hill, and more.
