The Winter Olympics scored its biggest improvement over Vancouver Tuesday night.
Primetime coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympics drew a 13.7 final rating and 23.7 million viewers on NBC, up 12% in ratings and 17% in viewership from Vancouver in 2010 (12.2, 20.3M), and up 21% and 29%, respectively, from Turin in 2006 (11.3, 18.4M). The comparable telecast of the most recent Olympics — London in 2012 — had a 21.8 rating and 38.7 million viewers.
Tuesday’s primetime window had easily the largest increase of this year’s Olympics. The previous night, the primetime window was actually down double-digits from Vancouver.
Through five nights (excluding the opening Thursday), primetime coverage of the Winter Olympics has averaged a 14.4 rating on NBC — down a tick from 2010 (14.5) and up 13% from 2006 (12.7). NBC did not disclose average viewership.
