Boosted by a rare early morning game, FOX scored strong numbers for Sunday’s NFL singleheader.
The Week 8 NFL singleheader window, featuring Eagles/Cardinals in 44% of markets, drew a 12.3 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon — up 22% from coverage on CBS last year (10.1) and up 21% from coverage on CBS in 2012 (10.2).
The 12.3 overnight is tied as the second-highest of the season for the NFL singleheader, trailing only coverage in Week 5 (12.8). The four singleheader windows on FOX this season are the four highest rated in the metered markets.
Sunday’s telecast benefited from an unusual lead-in. The 9:30 AM Lions/Falcons game from London, which aired nationally, drew a 6.6 overnight on FOX. While the 6.6 is the lowest of the season for any NFL telecast, it is more than respectable given the early timeslot.
Overall, the singleheader ranked second for the weekend among NFL games, trailing only the national window on CBS (13.0). The telecast topped NBC’s Sunday Night Football (11.4), which was hampered by World Series competition.
