After a double-digit drop opposite the Olympics last year, ratings and viewership bounced back for the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Pebble Beach National Pro-Am drew a 2.3 final rating and 3.6 million viewers on CBS Sunday, up 28% in ratings and 33% in viewership from coverage opposite the Olympics last year. Excluding years in which coverage faced the Olympics, the 2.3 is tied as the lowest for the final round since at least 2000.
Sunday’s telecast earned the second-highest rating and viewership of the weekend for a sporting event on broadcast, trailing only the NASCAR Sprint Unlimited on FOX (3.2, 5.6M). Keep in mind the NBA’s All-Star Weekend coverage aired on cable.
On Saturday, third round action drew a 1.5 and 2.2 million — up 50% in ratings and 43% in viewership from last year (1.0, 1.5M).
The telecasts were the first of the season on broadcast to have an increase in both ratings and viewership. Ratings dropped for the Farmers Insurance Open the previous weekend (viewership comparisons were not available), and viewership dropped for the Phoenix Open two weeks earlier (ratings comparisons were not available).
