Two of the biggest TV draws in hockey delivered NBC’s lowest overnight rating of the season on Sunday.
The Red Wings/Penguins NHL regular season game drew a 0.8 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, down a tick from Flyers/Penguins last year (0.9), down a third from Bruins/Penguins in 2013 (1.2), and tied as the lowest overnight of the season on the network.
The only game to earn as low an overnight this season was Capitals/Flyers in February, the first half of a Hockey Day in America doubleheader. So far this season, six of NBC’s ten NHL telecasts have earned a 1.0 overnight or lower — matching last year’s full-season total.
The telecast was the fifth of the season to have a year-over-year decline in overnights. Only one telecast has had an increase in overnights, and four others could not be compared to last year.
