Opening Day ratings dropped for the New York Yankees on YES Network. In other news, the Tigers also had a decline on Opening Day, while the defending champion Giants set a local record on CSN Bay Area.
Ratings Down For Yankees Opener, With Caveats
- Monday’s Blue Jays/Yankees Major League Baseball Opening Day game drew a 4.03 rating on YES Network in the New York market, down 11% from last year’s primetime opener against the Astros (4.53). Keep in mind the YES telecast did not ‘co-exist’ with ESPN’s national coverage of the game, which was blacked out in the New York market. (Nielsen)
Ratings Also Down For Tigers’ Opener
- The Tigers’ season-opener against the Twins drew a 13.8 rating on Fox Sports Detroit and Fox affiliate WJBK, down 7% from Royals/Tigers on the networks last year (14.9), but up 24% from Tigers/Twins in 2013 — which aired on FS Detroit alone (11.1). The game was the second-highest rated program of the day in Detroit, trailing the college basketball national championship game on CBS. (Nielsen)
Giants’ Opener Sets Local Record
- The defending champion Giants’ opener against the Diamondbacks drew a 5.7 rating on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area Monday night, the network’s best-ever rating for a Giants Opening Day game. The CSN telecast topped ESPN2’s concurrent coverage (0.95) by 500%. (via Sports Business Daily)
