NBCSN scored a double-digit rise in viewership for the Blackhawks and Ducks’ triple-overtime marathon.
Game 2 of the Blackhawks/Ducks NHL Western Conference final drew 1.7 million viewers on NBCSN Tuesday night, up 16% from Kings/Blackhawks last year (1.4M) but down 17% from Kings/Blackhawks on a Sunday night in 2013 (2.0M). The Blackhawks’ triple-overtime win did not end until after 2 AM ET.
Game 2 earned the seventh-largest audience of the playoffs on cable, with the Blackhawks having played in five of the top ten (the Rangers have played in the other five).
The last three NHL playoff games on NBCSN, dating back to Capitals/Rangers Game 7 last Wednesday, have each had a double-digit increase over last year and a double-digit decline from 2013. Keep in mind the comparable games in 2013 took place two weeks later on the calendar due to the NHL lockout.
Locally, Game 2 earned a 12.5 rating in Chicago and a 3.1 in Los Angeles. The latter rating was the market’s highest ever for a Ducks game on NBCSN.
