The Greenbrier Classic scored a record overnight, with the caveat that the event is only six years old.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic drew a 2.5 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 35% from last year (1.8), up 108% from 2013 (1.2), and the highest overnight for the event since it began in 2010 (12 telecasts). The previous high was a 2.1 in 2012.
This year marked just the second time that Tiger Woods has played The Greenbrier Classic, and the first time that he has made the cut. Though he was not in contention Sunday, he played his best round of the season.
Sunday continued a strong run for the PGA Tour. Dating back to the Tampa Bay Championship in March, 27 of the past 34 weekend PGA Tour telecasts have had an increase in overnight ratings — including 13 of 17 final round telecasts. Of those 27 telecasts, 25 have had a double-digit increase.
Saturday’s third round coverage drew a 1.5 overnight, up 35% from last year (1.1) and up 24% from 2013 (1.2).
