For the second straight day, the PGA Championship hit a multi-year high on TNT.
Second round coverage of the PGA Championship drew a 1.4 rating and 2.0 million viewers on TNT Friday, according to Nielsen fast-nationals — up 17% in ratings and 25% in viewership from last year (1.2, 1.6M) and flat in both measures compared to 2013 (1.4, 2.0M).
The telecast, which was abbreviated due to rain, peaked at 2.4 million from 5:45-6 PM ET.
The 1.4 rating tied the highest mark for second round coverage since 2009 (1.7), matching 2013. According to Turner Sports, viewership was also the highest since that 2009 telecast (2.4M) — apparently edging 2013.
The multi-year high was the second straight to start the tournament, after Thursday’s opening round was the highest rated and most-watched since 2010. The first two rounds averaged a 1.2 rating and 1.7 million viewers, up 20% in ratings and 25% in viewership from last year (1.0, 1.3M) and the highest two-day average since 2009.
Overall, all 14 rounds of major golf this year have had an increase in viewership — with 12 of those rounds up by double-digits.
