Even with Tiger Woods falling out of contention, last week’s PGA National was the latest tournament to hit a multi-year high.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour National earned a 2.1 final rating and 3.1 million viewers on CBS last Sunday, up 31% in ratings and 39% in viewership from last year (1.6, 2.3M) and up 62% and 67%, respectively, from 2013 (1.3, 1.9M).
The 2.1 rating is the highest for final round coverage of the tournament since Tiger Woods’ last win in 2012 (4.4). Excluding the two years in which Woods won, it ranks as the second-highest rating for the tournament since it began in 2007.
The National ranks as the 11th PGA Tour tournament this season to hit a multi-year high for final round coverage, and the fifth of the past six. Overall, 17 of the past 21 final round telecasts have had an increase in ratings, with 15 of those up by double-digits.
Third round action last Saturday drew a 1.7 and 2.5 million — up 55% in ratings and 62% in viewership from last year (1.1, 1.5M) and up 70% and 90%, respectively, from 2013 (1.0, 1.3M).
