It was no match for last year’s higher-profile matchup, but Sunday’s NFL national window delivered for CBS.
The Week 6 NFL national window, featuring Chargers/Packers in 81% of markets, drew a 14.5 final rating and 25.0 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 17% in ratings and viewership from coverage featuring Cowboys/Seahawks last year (17.4, 30.0M) and down 8% and 6%, respectively, from coverage featuring Saints/Panthers in 2013 (15.8, 26.7M), both of which aired on FOX.
The telecast ranks seventh for the season in ratings and viewership, and second among games on CBS. The Packers have been featured in three of the seven highest rated and most-watched telecasts this season, a mark matched only by the Cowboys.
Sunday’s national window was also the top telecast of Week 6, ahead of the much-hyped Patriots/Colts Sunday Night Football game on NBC (13.1, 22.8M). It could not match SNF among adults 18-49, trailing 8.2 to 7.7.
UPDATE 10/23: The early doubleheader window drew a 10.9 final rating and 18.3 million viewers, up 14% in ratings and viewership from coverage featuring Patriots/Dolphins last year (9.6, 16.1M) and up 11% and 12%, respectively, from coverage featuring Packers/Ravens in 2013 (9.8, 16.4M), both on FOX. It ranks as easily the most-watched edition of the window this season, topping the previous high of 15.3 million in Week 2.
