Overnight ratings for the Heisman Trophy Presentation were unchanged from last year’s low.
The Heisman Trophy Presentation earned a 2.0 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday night, even with last year, down 26% from 2013 (2.7), and tied as the lowest mark for the event since at least 2008. This year’s telecast expanded to 90 minutes, compared to 60 minutes in previous years.
Alabama HB Derrick Henry won the award, the first non-QB to do so since Mark Ingram — another Crimson Tide halfback — in 2009. Ingram’s win had a 3.6 overnight, which still ranks as the highest ever for the event.
Later in the night, the premiere of ESPN’s 30 For 30 documentary Four Falls of Buffalo had a 1.1 overnight — down 15% from The U Part II last year (1.3), down 27% from Youngstown Boys in 2013 (1.5) and the network’s lowest overnight for a post-Heisman documentary premiere since at least 2009.
