Ratings and viewership bounced back for the NHL’s annual Black Friday game. In other news, the CFL Grey Cup had a double-digit viewership slide, and the NBA’s Sixers scored their highest local rating in more than three years.
NHL Black Friday Game Up
- The Rangers/Bruins NHL Thanksgiving Showdown drew a 1.0 final rating and 1.4 million viewers on NBC Black Friday, up 16% in ratings and 18% in viewership from Rangers/Flyers last year (0.8, 1.1M) and flat and down 9%, respectively, from the same Rangers/Bruins matchup in 2013 (1.0, 1.5M). Of the four NHL Black Friday games on NBC (dating back to 2011), this year’s ranks second in viewership. (NBC Sports)
Grey Cup Viewership Down on ESPN2
- Last Sunday’s Eskimos/Redblacks CFL Grey Cup earned 139,000 viewers on ESPN2, down 27% from Tiger-Cats/Stampeders last year (189K) but still up 114% from Tiger-Cats/Roughriders on NBCSN in 2013 (65K). (via Sports TV Ratings)
Sixers Hit Three-Year High For Bryant Farewell
- Tuesday’s Lakers/Sixers NBA regular season game had a 2.8 rating on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, the network’s highest Sixers rating since February 2012. The game marked the final Philadelphia appearance of Lakers G and local native Kobe Bryant. (bizjournals.com)
