ESPN has added a new ‘homer’ option to its annual college football Megacast. In other news, ESPNU will begin airing NBA D-League regular season games next week, and Major League Soccer is headed to the FOX broadcast network.
CFB: National Championship Game Megacast (Monday 8:30 PM ET, ESPN networks)
- ESPN will present “Megacast” coverage of college football’s national championship game for the third straight year, with traditional game coverage of Alabama/Clemson on the primary ESPN network and alternate telecasts available on the various other ESPN outlets. Among the new options this year is a so-called homer telecast on ESPNU hosted by Joe Tessitore with analysis from former Alabama C Barrett Jones and former Clemson WR Tajh Boyd. (ESPN Media Zone)
NBA D-League: Regular season (January 15-March 29, ESPNU)
- ESPNU will begin airing NBA D-League regular season games starting next Friday, with the network set to carry twelve games on assorted weeknights. ESPNU will also carry the D-League conference finals and finals, marking the second consecutive year it has aired postseason games. (ESPN Media Zone)
MLS: Regular season (May 21-July 31, FOX)
- The FOX broadcast network is scheduled to air four Major League Soccer matches next season, Fox Sports announced Thursday. The first will pit New York City F.C. against the Red Bulls on Saturday, May 21, with the remaining matches airing over three consecutive Sundays in July. FOX will air a half-hour pre-match show prior to each telecast. Though a predominantly cable sport, MLS has now aired on three of the Big Four broadcast networks — having previously gained broadcast exposure on NBC (2012-14) and ABC (1996-08).
