Mirroring the trend for the game itself, the Super Bowl halftime show had a slight dip in the overnights. In other news, the postgame show actually inched up from last year, but the Late Show with Stephen Colbert could not hold on to that momentum.
SB Halftime Show Slips
- CBS’ Super Bowl coverage scored a 49.8 overnight rating from 8:30-8:45 PM ET, which featured the halftime performance by Beyonce, Bruno Mars and headliner Coldplay. The full halftime segment (8:15-8:45 PM) had a 50.0 overnight, down 2% from last year (50.8) but up 3% from 2014 (48.6). (Facebook, Sports Business Daily)
Postgame Bucks Trend With Increase
- Postgame coverage of the Super Bowl had a 30.9 overnight rating on CBS, up 1% from last year on NBC (30.6) and up 6% from 2014 on FOX (29.3). Pregame coverage averaged an approximate 12.4 overnight from 2-6:45 PM, and a 9.1 with the 45 minute “Kickoff Show” excluded. (via SBD, ShowBuzz Daily)
Colbert Hits Late Show High, But Still Low
- The Super Bowl lead-out program, a live episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, earned an 11.2 overnight rating on CBS — down 17% from The Blacklist on NBC last year (13.5) and down 10% from a half-hour New Girl on FOX in 2014 (12.4). The last time CBS aired the Super Bowl, 2013, a postgame episode of Elementary had an 11.0 overnight — but that had an unusually late start due to the game’s power outage delay. Despite the decline, the 11.2 overnight is the highest in the history of the Late Show, previously hosted by David Letterman. (via Deadline)
