The NHL is following the NBA’s lead and expanding the schedule for its championship series. In other news, USA Network is returning to NBC’s Summer Olympics roster, and the Super Bowl is headed to Los Angeles.
NHL: Stanley Cup Final (May 30-June 15, NBC/NBCSN)
- Working around the NBA’s newly expanded 18-day finals schedule, the NHL has announced that the Stanley Cup Final will begin on Memorial Day and run as late as June 15th — a span of 17 days. Last year’s series was scheduled for fifteen. The first four games will retain the usual Monday-Wednesday-Saturday rotation, but Games 5 would take place on a Sunday and Game 6 on a Thursday. 2016 Summer Olympics (August 5-21, USA, CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo)
- NBC Sports announced Tuesday that USA Network, Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC will join NBCSN, Golf Channel and the NBC broadcast network in broadcasting the Summer Olympics. After skipping the 2012 games, USA will air more than 110 hours of coverage, with most windows running from 9 AM to 5 PM ET. Bravo is scheduled for more than 94 hours, all tennis, with coverage running from 9:30 AM-10 PM in the first week and 11 AM-7 PM in the second. MSNBC is set for more than 78 hours (typically from 12-5 PM) and CNBC 42 (typically from 5-8 PM). (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
NFL: Super Bowl 55 from Los Angeles (February 2021, NBC)
- Los Angeles will host Super Bowl 55 in 2021, the NFL announced Tuesday, marking the first Super Bowl in the city since 1993. NBC will carry the game. The league also announced that Atlanta will host the Super Bowl in 2020 and Miami will do so in 2019. (Los Angeles Times)
