Euro 2016 viewership is tracking behind four years ago. In other news, Mexico was easily the biggest draw of Copa America’s group stage, and the NHRA scored another big audience in the post-NASCAR timeslot.
Euro 2016 Viewership Behind 2012’s Pace
- The group stage of UEFA Euro 2016 has averaged 726,000 viewers across ESPN and ESPN2 through Wednesday (15 matches), according to figures compiled by SMW. The comparable six-day average in 2012 was not available, but the networks averaged 1.0 million for the full group stage that year. So far, Saturday’s England/Russia match ranks as the most-watched of the tournament with 1.2 million viewers, with Sunday’s Germany/Ukraine match not far behind (1.17M).
Mexico Topping Copa America Charts
- Mexico’s three Copa America group stage matches averaged 4.9 million viewers on Univision and Univision Deportes Network, far outpacing the networks’ overall average of 2.6 million. El Tri has been a far larger draw for Univision than the United States has been for Fox Sports 1. The top U.S. match on FS1 had just 2.1 million.
NHRA Gets Another NASCAR Lift
- Aided by a NASCAR lead-in, tape delayed NHRA coverage from New Jersey earned 1.1 million viewers on FS1 Sunday afternoon — up 429% from last year, when coverage aired on ESPN2 at 11:30 PM ET (202K). The telecast was the third of the season to top the one million mark, with each of those having aired after a NASCAR race.
