After a drop in the overnights, final ratings inched up for the French Open men’s final.
French Open coverage featuring the Novak Djokovic/Andy Murray men’s final earned a 1.4 final rating and 2.0 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, up a tick in ratings and 3% in viewership from Stan Wawrinka/Djokovic last year (1.3, 1.9M) and down 18% and 20%, respectively, from Rafael Nadal/Djokovic in 2014 (1.7, 2.5M).
The slight increases mark a turnaround from the overnights, which were down 16%. Though up from last year, the 1.4 rating is still tied as the second-lowest for coverage featuring the men’s final in the past 14 years.
The previous day, coverage featuring the Garbine Muguruza/Serena Williams women’s final had a 1.1 and 1.5 million — down 21% in ratings and 25% in viewership from Williams/Lucie Safarova last year (1.4, 2.0M) and down 15% and 13%, respectively, from Maria Sharapova/Simona Halep in 2014 (1.3, 1.7M).
The 1.1 is the lowest for any French Open singles final in at least 20 years, falling below the previous mark of 1.3. Keep in mind the telecast ran from 9 AM-2:30 PM ET, 90 minutes longer than in previous years.
