Ratings continue to trend downward for the Rio Olympics.
Primetime coverage of the Rio Summer Olympics earned a 16.4 overnight rating on NBC Monday night, down 6% from London in 2012 (17.5) and down 13% from Beijing in 2008 (18.9). Compared to the same night of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, overnights increased 12% from a 14.6.
Figures do not include concurrent primetime coverage on NBCSN, which pulled a 0.7 overnight.
The 16.4 overnight is tied as the third-lowest of the Rio Games (11 telecasts), with three of the four lowest ratings coming in the past four nights. That is no surprise, as Summer Olympics ratings tend to fall off during the second week.
Sale Lake City was the top market with a 20.6 rating, marking the ninth time in eleven nights of coverage that it has topped all markets. Austin, TX, ranked second with a 19.9, followed by Denver (19.6), St. Louis (19.4) and Minneapolis-St. Paul (18.3).
