Tirico, Carillo Part of NBC’s Closing Ceremony Team
- NBC Sports broadcasters Mike Tirico and Mary Carillo and reality television personality Ryan Seacrest will host Sunday’s Olympic Closing Ceremony on NBC, the network announced Saturday. Carillo worked the Closing Ceremony in 2002 and 2008, while Seacrest did so in 2012. Tirico, in his first year with NBC Sports, has not previously covered the Olympics. (NBC Sports)
Gilmore Battling Cancer But Says Prognosis is “Good”
- ESPN college football analyst Rod Gilmore has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, ESPN announced earlier in the week. In a statement released by ESPN, Gilmore said he feels “great” and his “prognosis is good.” In his 20th year with ESPN, he will call the network’s opening night South Carolina/Vanderbilt telecast as scheduled. Junior, Senior, to Guest on ESPN
- Baseball Hall of Fame CF Ken Griffey Jr. and NFL Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr. will each make guest appearances on ESPN in the coming weeks. Long associated with the Seattle Mariners, Griffey Jr. will serve as a guest analyst on the team’s home game against the Yankees Tuesday, working alongside Jon Sciambi, Rick Sutcliffe and Doug Glanville. Smith Sr. will be a regular guest analyst on ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning throughout the NFL season, with his debut yet to be determined. (ESPN Media Zone [1], [2])
