FOX began its annual NFL tripleheader on a high note, but could not sustain the gains for the rest of the day.
Packers/Falcons earned a 13.1 final rating and 22.7 million viewers in last Sunday’s Week 8 NFL national window, down 23% in ratings and viewership from Seahawks/Cowboys last year (17.0, 29.4M) and up 7% and 10%, respectively, from coverage featuring Colts/Steelers on CBS in 2014 (12.2, 20.7M).
The Packers’ win was the sixth of eight NFL national windows this season to decline from last year.
For just the second time all season, the national window was not the weekend’s most-watched sporting event. Its lead-out program, Game 5 of the World Series, had 23.6 million later in the night.
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring Seahawks/Saints had a 7.7 and 12.8 million viewers — down 24% in ratings and 23% in viewership from coverage featuring Giants/Saints last year (10.1, 16.6M) and down 13% and 9%, respectively, from coverage on CBS in 2014 (8.8, 14.1M).
Bucking the trend of declines, the Washington/Cincinnati game from London had a 5.5 and 8.7 million viewers — up 4% in ratings and viewership from Lions/Chiefs last year (5.3, 8.4M) flat and up 3%, respectively, from Lions/Falcons in 2014 (5.5, 8.5M).
