The Miami Beach Bowl was the least-watched bowl game in nearly three years. In other news, the Boca Raton Bowl sank from the previous two years, and the Camellia Bowl also suffered a year-over-year drop.
Tulsa Obliteration of CMU is Least-Watched Bowl in Three Years
- The Tulsa/Central Michigan Miami Beach Bowl had just 794,000 viewers on ESPN Monday afternoon, down 31% from Western Kentucky/South Florida last year (1.2M) and down 40% from BYU/Memphis in 2014 (1.3M). It was the least-watched bowl game on a Nielsen-rated network since 2013-14 Heart of Dallas Bowl, the last such game to air on ESPNU (332K).
Boca Raton Bowl Down From Past Two Years
- Western Kentucky/Memphis scored 1.6 million viewers in the Boca Raton Bowl Tuesday night, down 19% from Temple/Toledo last year (2.0M), down 30% from Marshall/Northern Illinois in 2014 (2.2M) and the least-watched edition of the three-year-old game. Ratings were not immediately available.
Camellia Bowl Also Down
- Saturday’s Appalachian State/Toledo Camellia Bowl had a 0.9 final rating and 1.5 million viewers on ESPN, down 25% in ratings and 20% in viewership from Appalachian State/Ohio last year (1.2, 1.9M) but up 29% and 33% respectively from Bowling Green/South Alabama in the inaugural edition of the game two years ago (0.7, 1.1M).
