Though down from last year, the PGA Pebble Beach Pro-Am delivered one of its highest ratings in a decade.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour at Pebble Beach had a 2.7 final rating and 4.2 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 16% in ratings and 13% in viewership from last year (3.2, 4.9M) but up 17% in both measures from 2015 (2.3, 3.6M). The 2.7 rating is tied with 2013 as the third-highest for final round coverage in the past ten years, behind only last year and 2012 (4.9).
Jordan Spieth‘s win scored the highest rating and viewership of the young PGA season, not unusual for Pebble Beach. Last year, the final round was the highest rated and most-watched golf telecast of the year, excluding majors and including the Ryder Cup.
For the weekend, the final round ranked second among all sports telecasts behind the Warriors/Thunder NBA game on ABC (3.4, 6.1M). It topped ABC’s other NBA game, Spurs/Knicks, head-to-head (1.9, 2.9M) — though it should be noted the NBA game had a larger audience in adults under 50 (1.2M to 825K).
Third round action on Saturday delivered 2.7 million viewers, up 11% from last year (2.4M) and up 23% from 2015 (2.2M). Ratings rose 9% year-over-year (from 1.61 to 1.75).
