ESPN’s massive layoffs have affected every sport the network covers, perhaps none more than baseball.
ESPN, which Wednesday laid off MLB reporter Jayson Stark and analysts Dallas Braden, Doug Glanville and Raul Ibanez, has eliminated weeknight editions of its long-running studio show Baseball Tonight. The show will only air prior to Sunday Night Baseball and during major events such as the MLB All-Star Game and World Series.
The network will still provide MLB studio coverage before and during its Monday and Wednesday night games.
In addition, ESPN2 will begin airing the MLB Network show International Talk every weekday starting Monday. The show, which will air on ESPN2 at 4 PM ET and then on MLB Network at 5, will continue to be hosted by Chris Rose and Kevin Millar, with occasional appearances by ESPN MLB analysts.
Intentional Talk will air on ESPN2 year-round, lasting one hour during the season and a half-hour in the offseason. It is the first non-ESPN produced show to regularly air on the network in recent memory.
