Cowboys-Broncos did well enough for FOX, but likely hurt NBC’s Sunday night game in the process.
The Week 2 NFL national window, featuring Cowboys-Broncos in 81% of markets, had a 16.1 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon — up 18% from last year on CBS (13.6) but down 10% from 2015 on FOX (17.8). Last year’s telecast featured Colts-Broncos and the 2015 window Cowboys-Eagles.
The teams’ previous meeting in 2013, which aired on CBS in Week 5, had an 18.6 overnight.
The Broncos’ blowout win was delayed 62 minutes due to a weather delay, pushing the conclusion into the start of Packers-Falcons on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. That game had a 12.6 overnight, down 8% from Packers-Vikings last year (13.7) and down 23% from Seahawks-Packers in 2015 (16.3).
As noted by Sports Business Daily, the 12.6 is the lowest for the Week 2 edition of SNF since Steelers-Browns in 2008 (11.9).
Elsewhere Sunday, CBS pulled a 9.2 overnight for its singleheader window, down 25% from last year on FOX (12.3) and down 15% from 2015 on CBS (10.8).
FOX brought up the rear with an 8.5 for its early game window, which featured Eagles-Chiefs, down 22% from last year on CBS (10.9) and down 14% from 2015 on FOX (9.9).
