CBS laid an egg in what is traditionally the NFL’s highest rated TV window.
Raiders-Broncos had a 9.1 rating and 15.6 million viewers in Sunday’s NFL national window on CBS, down 31% in ratings and viewership from last year (13.1, 22.7M) and down 39% and 40% respectively from 2015 (15.0, 25.9M). Cowboys-49ers was the featured game last year and Packers-49ers was in 2015, both on FOX.
Excluding special circumstances, such as Week 17 or the occasional Christmas Eve Saturday edition, the Raiders’ win was the least-watched late doubleheader game since Week 5 of the 2007 season (14.5M) and the lowest rated since at least 2004.
It also posted the steepest declines of any NFL window this season.
For the week, the NFL national window had a rare third-place finish behind NBC’s Sunday Night Football (9.6, 16.7M) and the singleheader on FOX (11.5, 20.1M).
Earlier in the day, CBS scored a 7.0 and 11.7 million for its early game — up 4% in ratings and viewership from last year (6.7, 11.2M) and down 10% and 9% respectively from 2015 (7.8, 12.8M), both on FOX.
