The Packers and Cowboys delivered a double-digit increase for FOX, but the numbers were well short of their previous meetings.
Packers-Cowboys earned a 13.6 rating and 23.9 million viewers in Sunday’s NFL national window, up 12% in ratings and viewership from last year (12.1, 21.3M) but down 11% and 9% respectively from 2015 (15.2, 26.1M). The previous windows also featured Dallas — against Cincinnati last year and New England in 2015, both on CBS.
Green Bay’s win was the second-highest rated and third-most watched NFL window all season. The Cowboys have now played in the season’s top three games, with their Week 2 matchup with Denver holding the top spot (14.3, 26.0M).
All five NFL telecasts to involve the Cowboys this season have posted an increase in ratings and/or viewership, which will be no surprise to anyone who has followed NFL ratings over the years.
Despite the strong numbers, Sunday’s game declined 14% in ratings and 15% in viewership from the teams’ meeting last year, which took place in Week 6 (15.8, 28.0M). It also trailed their matchups in 2015 (16.5, 28.9M) and 2013 (16.3, 27.8M) to rank as their lowest rated meeting since a Sunday Night Football blowout in 2010 (11.6, 19.4M).
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring Panthers-Lions in 50% of markets had a 7.5 and 12.3 million — down 17% in ratings and 19% in viewership from last year (9.0, 15.2M) and down 10% and 9% respectively from 2015 (8.3, 13.6M).
