With the low-profile Chiefs and winless Giants center stage and the Cowboys getting the week off, Week 6 NFL ratings held up fairly well in the overnights.
The Week 6 NFL national window, featuring Steelers-Chiefs in 86% of markets, had a 14.0 overnight rating on CBS Sunday — down 20% from last year on FOX (17.4) and down 10% from 2015 on CBS (15.5). Last year’s window featured Cowboys-Packers and the 2015 telecast Chargers-Packers.
The 14.0 is the highest of the season on CBS, topping the previous mark of 13.8 for the Week 2 national window (mostly Bengals-Packers). Last season, it took until Week 11 for CBS to crack a 14.0 overnight. In 2015, CBS hit a 14.0 right off the bat in Week 1.
Though solid by recent standards, the 14.0 is the lowest for the Week 6 national window since 2006 (13.5), per Sports Business Daily.
Later in the day, NBC pulled a 10.9 for the winless Giants against the Broncos on Sunday Night Football — up 21% from Colts-Texans last year (9.0) but down 25% from Patriots-Colts in 2015 (14.6). The game more-than-doubled the competing Cubs-Dodgers MLB NLCS Game 2 on TBS, which was down 10% (4.5).
Shifting to the afternoon windows, FOX earned a 9.9 for the singleheader window, featuring Packers-Vikings or Rams-Jaguars in most of the country — down 12% from last year on CBS (11.2) and 2015 on FOX (11.3).
CBS pulled an 8.5 for the early doubleheader window (-13%).
