In a rarity this NFL season, CBS NFL ratings increased twice on Sunday.
Chiefs-Cowboys scored a 12.5 rating and 21.7 million viewers in Sunday’s NFL national window on CBS, up 7% in ratings and 8% in viewership from last year (mostly IND-GB: 11.7, 20.2M) but down 13% and 10% respectively from Broncos-Colts in 2015, Peyton Manning‘s final game in Indianapolis (14.3, 24.0M).
The Cowboys’ win ranks as the highest rated and most-watched NFL telecast on CBS all season, topping the previous marks of 12.2 and 21.3 million for the Week 3 national window (mostly CIN-GB).
Regardless of network, it ranks seventh for the season in ratings and viewership. Dallas has now played in five of the top seven games.
Eleven NFL windows have now exceeded 20 million viewers, down from 14 at the same point last year and 21 in 2015.
Earlier in the day, CBS scored a 7.15 (+4%) and 11.9 million viewers (+6%) for the first half of its doubleheader.
Overall, 19 of 57 NFL telecasts this season have posted an increase in ratings and/or viewership. That includes six of the eight windows that have featured the Cowboys.
