It did not generate the kind of triple-digit increases and multi-year highs seen in Tiger Woods‘ other tournaments this season, but Quail Hollow ratings still soared on CBS.
Last Sunday’s PGA Tour Quail Hollow Championship final round earned a 1.9 rating and 2.90 million viewers on CBS, up 36% in both measures from last year (1.4, 2.1M), but flat and down 1% respectively from 2016 (1.9, 2.93M).
It was the lowest rated and least-watched final round of any tournament played by Woods this season, including the L.A. Open in February — a tournament at which he missed the cut. He finished in a tie for 55th.
Third round action last Saturday had a 1.3 and 1.8 million, up 44% in ratings and 37% in viewership from last year (0.9, 1.3M) and up 18% and 9% respectively from 2016 (1.1, 1.6M).
Of the 30 PGA Tour rounds on broadcast television this season, 23 have posted increases in ratings and viewership — including all 12 played by Woods. 21 rounds have at least tied a multi-year high in one or both measures.
Lead-in coverage on Golf Channel had a 0.6 rating (+45%) and 893,000 (+57%) viewers on Saturday and a 0.45 (+41%) and 647,000 (+37%) on Sunday.
