For a second straight game, Stanley Cup Final ratings hit a three-year high in the metered martkets.
Wednesday’s Capitals-Golden Knights NHL Stanley Cup Final Game 2 delivered a 2.8 overnight rating on NBCSN, up 12% from Predators-Penguins last year (2.5) and up 47% from Sharks-Penguins in 2016 (1.9).
The 2.8 is the highest for Game 2 of the Cup Final since Blackhawks-Lightning 2015, when coverage aired on NBC following The Belmont Stakes (4.8).
In addition, it is the highest for any Stanley Cup Final game on NBCSN since the same 2015 series, when Games 3 and 4 both pulled a 2.9. Overall, the 2.8 is the fifth-highest Stanley Cup Final overnight on NBCSN (previously VERSUS and OLN).
Overnights fell 24% from Game 1, which aired on the NBC broadcast network (3.7). That is the smallest drop from NBC to NBCSN since at least 2011.
Las Vegas led all markets Wednesday night with a 19.8 rating, trailing Game 1 (28.1) as the market’s highest NHL rating on record. Washington D.C. was second at a 13.3, also behind Game 1 (16.0) as the market’s highest on record.
Baltimore ranked third at an 8.4. Buffalo was the top neutral market (8.1), with Pittsburgh (7.1) rounding out the top five.
