Mets ratings have declined double-digits; Johnny Manziel sent CFL viewership to an ESPN record; Premier Boxing Champions improved a bit in its return to FOX.
Mets Ratings Down (UPDATED)
With the team well out of contention, New York Mets games have averaged a 2.35 rating and 223,000 viewers on SNY in the New York market — marking a 14% ratings decline from the same point last year. Last Tuesday’s Mets-Nationals game, in which New York lost by a franchise record 21 runs, was unsurprisingly below average at a 1.27 and 114,000. UPDATE 8/13: Original post erroneously stated Mets ratings are up from last year, based on a comparison of this year’s averages to last year’s full season numbers.
Manziel Boosts CFL to ESPN Record
Friday’s Hamilton-Montreal Canadian Football League game, featuring the CFL debut of former Texas A&M and Browns QB Johnny Manziel, had 406,000 viewers on ESPN2 — the largest CFL audience ever on the ESPN family of networks. The previous high was 347,000 for a 2013 Saskatchewan-Edmonton game.
It was the day’s fourth-most watched program on any ESPN network, trailing Pardon the Interruption (540K), the 6 PM ET SportsCenter (413K) and the 11 PM ET SportsCenter (410K).
Premier Boxing Inches Up in Return to FOX
The latest edition of Premier Boxing Champions on FOX earned a 0.6 rating and 941,000 viewers Saturday night, flat in ratings but up 12% in viewership from the previous telecast in April (0.6, 839K). It was the most-watched PBC card on broadcast television since March 2017 on CBS (3.1M), with the caveat that there have been only three windows since.
Overall, it ranks as the third-least watched PBC card on primetime broadcast television (15 total).
