ESPN is set to part ways with Darren Rovell, Kate Fagan and Mack Brown.
Darren Rovell Leaving ESPN
ESPN sports business reporter Darren Rovell is leaving the network to join The Action Network, a gambling-focused sports website, the New York Post reported Monday. CNN Reliable Sources anchor Brian Stelter first reported Rovell was on his way out. Rovell’s contract does not expire until the summer, but ESPN plans to let him out several months early, according to the report.
Rovell is in his second stint with ESPN, having rejoined the network in 2012. He previously worked for ESPN from 2000-06, leaving for a stint with CNBC. [NYP 11.26]
Kate Fagan Leaving ESPN
ESPN Outside the Lines contributor and ESPN.com writer Kate Fagan announced last week that she is leaving the company effective at year’s end. Fagan was offered a contract extension and declined, per The Washington Post.
Much like Jemele Hill, who left ESPN earlier this year, Fagan said her role at ESPN limited the kind of off-field stories she could cover. [Washington Post 11.19]
Mack Brown Leaving ESPN: Report
ESPN college football analyst Mack Brown is in talks to join the University of North Carolina as head football coach, according to multiple reports. ESPN reported Monday that Brown and UNC are finalizing a deal, while Inside Carolina reported that a deal was already done. Brown has served as a college football analyst for ESPN/ABC since 2014.
