The Cris Carter era is over at Fox Sports, and not for the reason that had been previously reported.
Fox Sports announced Thursday that Carter is no longer an employee of the company, but did not provide any further comment. According to The Big Lead, he cleared out his desk Thursday under supervision of security.
Carter had been off the air since last week under what The Big Lead characterized as a suspension pending an investigation. Front Office Sports reported that Carter had been in conflict with his bosses over his lack of role on FOX Thursday Night Football coverage.
However, the New York Post is reporting that the issue was more serious. No details have emerged as yet.
Carter joined Fox Sports in 2017 after a seven-year run with ESPN. His ESPN tenure was marked by the occasional controversy, including a 2014 incident in which he advised incoming NFL rookies to have a “fall guy” in case they were ever in trouble.
With Fox, Carter hosted the morning show First Things First alongside Nick Wright and Jenna Wolfe. He was prominent in the network’s coverage of NBA free agency last summer.
