A second-straight dud led to a second-straight week of season-low ratings for Amazon’s Thursday Night Football.
The latest edition of NFL Thursday Night Football (Washington-Chicago) averaed a 4.3 rating and 8.79 million viewers on Amazon Prime, marking the lowest rated and least-watched of the five TNF games on Amazon thus far. The previous lows were a 4.9 and 9.70 million for Colts-Broncos.
Figures include over-the-air simulcasts in Chicago (833K) and Washington DC (379K). With those numbers excluded, the game averaged approximately 7.57 million on Amazon Prime alone. Each of the other TNF games have averaged at least 9.0 million on Amazon Prime, with Colts-Broncos the prior week at 9.02 million.
As one would expect, ratings and viewership sank in the neighborhood of 40% from Buccaneers-Eagles on FOX and NFL Network last year (8.0, ~14.4M). Ratings also declined in each of the key young adult demographics, marking the first time this season that Amazon’s TNF rating in adults 18-34 trailed last year’s equivalent game.
TNF is now averaging 10.8 million viewers so far this season. A comparison to last year’s five-week average, which included two Fox simulcasts and three NFL Network exclusives, was not immediately available. Viewership remains up significantly in adults 18-49 (from 4.37 to 5.45M, +25%) and 18-34 (from 1.70 to 2.51M, +48%).
In other NFL ratings news, NBC is projecting an audience of 22.2 million for Cowboys-Eagles on Sunday Night Football, which would be the largest for a Week 6 edition of SNF since 2015. Official numbers will be released Tuesday morning.
