The United States’ tournament-ending defeat at the hands of Uruguay delivered a new Copa America viewership record.
Monday’s Uruguay-United States Copa America group stage match averaged 3.78 million viewers on FS1, marking the largest Copa America audience ever on English-language U.S. television. The previous high was set by the USMNT opener against Bolivia earlier this month, which drew 3.19 million on the FOX broadcast network.
Uruguay’s win, which peaked with 4.87 million in the 10:30 PM ET quarter-hour, delivered the largest soccer audience ever on FS1 outside of the World Cup — and the fifth-largest with the World Cup included.
The three USMNT group stage matches averaged 3.15 million viewers across FOX and FS1, more-than-double the team’s previous Copa America appearance eight years ago (1.52M). The 2016 matches aired solely on FS1.
It ranks as the fourth-most watched FS1 program of any kind in the past year, trailing only Games 3, 5 and 6 of last year’s Rangers-Astros MLB ALCS.
Kansas City led all markets Monday night with a 4.1 rating and 13 share, followed by Atlanta at a 2.8/9 and Las Vegas at a 2.6/10. San Diego (2.5/9) and Dallas-Ft. Worth (2.4/8) rounded out the top five.
The full Copa America tournament is averaging 1.10 million viewers across FOX, FS1 and FS2 through Monday, up more than 400 percent from 2021 (216K) and up 48% from 2016 (774K).
