Ratings and viewership dipped for Saturday’s Chick-Fil-A Bowl.
The 2011 Chick Fil-A Bowl, won by #25 Auburn over unranked Virginia, earned a 3.6 U.S. rating and 6.155 million viewers on ESPN Saturday night — down 16% in ratings and 18% in viewership from last year (FSU/SC: 4.3, 7.492M), and down 14% and 18%, respectively, from 2009 (VT/TEN: 4.2, 7.513M).
The game ranks as the lowest rated and least-viewed edition of the bowl LSU’s 35-point blowout of Georgia Tech in 2008 (LSU/GT: 3.4, 5.635).
Despite the decline, the game earned the second-largest bowl audience of the week on ESPN, trailing only the Alamo Bowl.
