Postseason
The Georgia-Ohio State Peach Bowl finished as the most-watched game of the college football season with just over 22 million viewers on New Year’s Eve. The preceding TCU-Michigan Fiesta Bowl ranked second at more than 21 million. Georgia’s wipeout of TCU in the National Championship finished a distant third.
Championship Week
The SEC Championship narrowly topped championship week with 10.89 million viewers, followed close behind by the Big Ten Championship.
Week 13
As one would expect, Michigan-Ohio State dominated week thirteen of the season with college football’s largest regular season audience in 11 years (keep in mind out-of-home viewing is included now and was not included prior to two years ago). In a bit of an upset, Florida-FSU took second place on Thanksgiving weekend in its special Black Friday primetime slot on ABC.
Week 12
A pair of near-upsets topped Week 12 of the college football season as Ohio State’s narrow win over Maryland topped the charts with Michigan’s escape versus Illinois ranking second.
Week 11
The SEC on CBS topped week eleven of the season with more than eight million viewers tuning in for Alabama-Mississippi.
Week 10
The SEC took the top two spots in week ten of the college football season, as the top-five matchup between Tennessee and Georgia scored a season-high 13.1 million viewers and LSU’s upset of Alabama delivered ESPN’s largest regular season college football audience in years with 7.6 million.
Week 9
FOX topped week nine of the college football season with more than eight million viewers for Ohio State-Penn State, the fourth-largest audience of the season on any network. Ohio State and Alabama are the only teams with multiple appearances in the top five.
Week 8
ABC topped week of the college football season with a 2.7 rating and 4.75 million viewers for Syracuse-Clemson, snapping a streak of five-straight wins for the SEC on CBS.
Week 7
The SEC on CBS topped the ratings charts for a fifth-straight week as Tennessee’s thrilling win over Alabama delivered a season-high rating (6.1) and audience (11.56M).
Week 6
The SEC on CBS topped the ratings charts for a fourth-straight week as Alabama’s primetime win over Texas A&M scored the fourth-largest audience of the season. Ratings and viewership still trailed the same matchup in the same window last year.
Week 5
The SEC on CBS topped the ratings charts for a third-straight week as Alabama-Arkansas led the way in week five.
Week 4
For the second-straight week, the SEC on CBS topped the college football ratings charts.
Week 3
Penn State-Auburn was comfortably the highest rated and most-watched college football game of week three, meaning that ABC, FOX and CBS have each taken top honors in the first three weeks of the season.
Week 2
Alabama-Texas was easily the most-watched game of week two, topping the previous week’s Notre Dame-Ohio State game as the most-watched of the young season.
Weeks 0-1
Notre Dame-Ohio State dominated week one of the season with more than ten million viewers on ABC.
