The latest in a growing line of thrilling NFC Championship games earned massive numbers on FOX Sunday evening.
The Giants/49ers NFC Championship Game earned a 33.4 overnight rating on FOX Sunday, up 7% from last year’s comparable game (NYJ/PIT: 31.3, CBS), and up a tick from the comparable game in 2010 (MIN/NO: 33.3, FOX).
The 33.4 overnight is the highest for an NFL Conference Championship game since 1994-95 (DAL/SF: 34.2), topping the previous 17-year high set by Vikings/Saints in 2010. The NFC Championship Game has now earned at least a 30.0 overnight in four of the past five seasons.
Sunday’s 17-year high comes on the heels of a 15-year high for Giants/Packers the previous week and a 21-year high for Steelers/Broncos on Wild Card weekend.
Overnight ratings peaked from 10-10:30 PM ET at a 39.3. To put that in perspective, the 2010 Vikings/Saints game, which also went to overtime, earned a 39.4 during the same half-hour.
